X Corp Sues CCDH — Alleges NGO Manipulated Platforms Using Data Access
X Corp (Twitter) filed a lawsuit in federal court against the Center for Countering Digital Hate, alleging the CCDH had misused data access to manufacture pressure campaigns against the platform and had tortiously interfered with X's business. The complaint alleged CCDH used its "trusted researcher" data access to cherry-pick content to produce misleading reports designed to drive advertisers away from X. The case was ultimately dismissed by a federal judge in March 2024 on standing and pleading grounds — but not before generating significant discovery disputes over CCDH's internal communications and methodology. Critics of the dismissal noted the judge did not rule that the CCDH's methodology was sound, only that X had not adequately pleaded its claims.
