Singapore POFMA — Ministers Gain Direct Power to Order Content "Corrections" or Removal
Singapore's Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA) came into force, granting individual government ministers — not courts — direct power to issue correction directions or removal orders against online content they deemed false. POFMA had been used repeatedly against opposition politicians, critics of the government, and foreign media. The Singapore government issued POFMA directions against the Workers' Party, academic sites, and international news outlets including The Online Citizen. Critics described POFMA as a targeted tool against political dissent dressed as anti-misinformation law.
